Health Insurance: Types of plans
Health Insurance guide: types of plans.
Health Insurance comes in several forms. Understanding the differences helps you choose the structure that fits your life stage and budget.
| Type | What it means |
|---|---|
| Individual plan | One person, one sum insured. Best when members have different health profiles or you want each person to have a full cover amount. |
| Family floater | One sum insured shared by the whole family. Usually cheaper than separate policies; works well for young families. |
| Senior citizen plan | Designed for people aged 60 and above, often with a co-pay and longer waiting periods for pre-existing conditions. |
| Critical illness plan | Pays a fixed lump sum on diagnosis of listed illnesses such as cancer, heart attack or stroke, regardless of the hospital bill. |
| Super top-up / top-up | Kicks in after a deductible is crossed. A cost-efficient way to raise your total cover on top of a base plan. |
| Maternity-linked plan | Covers delivery and newborn expenses after a waiting period that is often two to four years. |
| Hospital cash plan | Pays a fixed daily amount for each day in hospital to cover non-medical costs. |
