Life Insurance: Claim process
Life Insurance guide: claim process.
A claim is the moment of truth for any policy. Knowing the process in advance makes it far less stressful.
- Intimate the insurer. Inform the insurer or us as soon as possible, ideally within the time stated in the policy.
- Submit the claim form. Nominee submits the claim form with original policy and documents.
- Provide supporting documents. Death certificate, identity proofs, medical records and, for unnatural death, FIR and post-mortem.
- Insurer reviews the claim. For early claims within three years, insurers may investigate more carefully.
- Decision and payout. Approved claims are paid to the nominee’s bank account, with interest for any delay beyond the regulated period.
- If rejected. Ask for the reason in writing and escalate to the grievance officer and then the Insurance Ombudsman.
